Bloomfield Hills, MI: Cranbrook Academy of Art

Visit: We met with Judy Dyki, Library Director (who agreed to join our Advisory Board) and Leslie Edwards, Archivist. Judy talked with us about the library, but the majority of the special materials were located in the Archives.

The archive holdings are documented on their website.

This includes subject Guides to their Architectural drawings, Manuscript collections, Oral histories, Video collection, Publications (both Cranbrook and non-Cranbrook), Photofile, and slides.

They create their digital finding aids in Word, then move to PDF files. If the collection is unprocessed, they have a print inventory. They did a ContentDM project with their images. Architectural drawings cataloged to item level. MARC records thru Horizon (?) but the images are not digitized. Microfilm collection – does not seem to be commercial sets, but rather copies of material from other collections.

Discoveries: Cranbrook archives document thier rich design history.  They hold the  Roy Slade Papers / Sarrinen Family Papers / James Scripps Booth – car design, Suzanne Vanderbilt – car design

McCoy Papers recently processed – Finding Aid (collection description) is online
